ABOUT ME

Hello, I'm Tamara and I help people find balance and inner strength when they're dealing with difficult issues or feeling low.

I appreciate that having someone to talk to, who's there to listen and help you work through issues, can be incredibly beneficial. Many people feel more comfortable talking to a trained, registered therapist who's able to listen without judgement. My experience and training enable me to integrate a range of theories and skills best suited to your individual needs, to facilitate therapeutic change and mental wellbeing.

I focus on the quality of the therapeutic relationship because this is the most important aspect of successful therapeutic work. Different people have different needs, so I integrate a range of theoretical approaches to achieve this. I work to the BACP ethical code of practice.

I have experience of working with clients in the following areas:

Abuse | Anger management | Anxiety | Baby loss | Bereavement | Carer support | Depression | Disabilities | Emotional Abuse | Feeling Sad |  Grief | Health issues | Infertility | Lonliness | Low self-confidence or self-esteem | Sexual identity | Redundancy | Relationship problems | Self-harm | Stress | Work-related stress.

Call or email now to schedule your first session with me.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Finding a therapist who's right for you is important, so the first session is a chance for us to meet,  discuss what brought you to counselling and find out whether us working together feels right for you.

I'll ask a bit about your background to help me better understand what's going on for you and invite you to ask questions about the way we'll work together.

You can opt for time-limited, where we work together for an agreed amount of time (usually 6 to 12 sessions) or open-ended where we work toward an agreed goal.

We can review the number of sessions at any time.

We'll use our therapeutic relationship to work through the issues you choose. The focus is always on what you'd like to achieve and you determine the pace. With permission, I'll gently encourage and challenge in order to support your goals.

I primarily integrate person-centred and psychodynamic approaches when working with clients.

PERSON-CENTERED APPROACH

Carl Rogers is the founder of this client-centered and non-directive approach. You lead the conversation in the direction you want to go rather than the counsellor.

The counsellor accepts the route you wish to take and provides non-judgemental support whatever you're going through.

The counsellor may share their feelings with you to contribute to the therapeutic relationship and support your goals.

"It is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried" - Carl Rogers.
